...is not, however, with the failure to address the issue and the consequent alienation of the questioner, but with the reduction of the eucharistic problem to other inadequate questions. by refusing to consider the eucharist in all its ecclesiological, eschatological, and historical significance, one renders it harmless. it becomes a simple problem of in-or-out and and question of academic twiddling. lost is the problem of what is the church, what does the church do, what is the life of the world that we are given and given abundantly because christ gave himself up for it, of what are we witnesses? the eucharist is reduced to a thing among things and the life we are given simply becoms 'religious life', a superstructure on top of 'secular life', and ne'er the twain shall meet. and that is why protestantism is a satanic delusion.
